PRESIDENT BUSH visits the VICTORY JUNCTION GANG CAMP...

For you who were out of town or didn't watch the news...President Bush paid the Triad of North Carolina another visit. He toured one of the local schools, ate a Southern Barbeque plate with all the fixins at Stamey's in Greensboro and then was off to Randleman and PETTY Country.
The President paid tribute to the VICTORY JUNCTION GANG CAMP by paying them a visit and spending time with the kids there. WBFJ toured there a few months back and we agree with the President..they are doing a great work! (Note: thanks to you wbfj raises over $7000 during the fair to help send kids to the camp). President Bush did a little quick two-handed tire change while at the camp...

Mr. President, next time I respectfully suggest you make the the tough decision and go with FIXAFLAT...I say tough decision because "the can" is not popular with mechanics but FIXAFLAT does work and its fast as NASCAR!

Out of all the thousands of people in North Carolina who like the President there were a about a hundred or less gathered from around the state who apparently don't.(Didn't talk to any personally so I can't say..just watched the news).
And the
protesters
had a
spokesperson.

And as FORREST G.
would say...
that's
all I
got to say
about that.

"SHOW and TELL"... i smell marshmallows burning!

Yesterday I was telling our intern NOLAN about the history of recording tape. NOLAN, being an MP3 type of guy was really moved when I told him about the first "tape" recording was actually on a "wire"...yes, wire recorders for real!

"NO WAY".

"Yes way!"

OK. NOLAN, I'll bring one in and show (and tell) ya!

When NOLAN saw it...

NOLAN WAS obviously WOWED!

Love at first sight..."THE IPOD MAXI"!

"BUT WILL IT REALLY WORK?"

"OH, I dunno NOLAN, this baby is old and may go up in smoke if we plug it in. I had already told him the wire may contain some famous voice like President Roosevelt or batman or somebody... so the pressure was on to check it out. But if it burns the fun is definitely over for good!

OK. NOLAN but don't let WALLY see you getting the fire extinguiser off the wall.

AND NOLAN...
you da man to plug it in!

Oneeeeeeeeeee............... twooooooooooooooo.............
threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee......
plug it in!

"HOUSTON we have a motor running".
But no sound
and what's that smell of burnt marshmallows...
NOLAN!
N-O-L-A-N PULL THE PLUG
FAST!!!!!!
PHEW...
that was a close call...

"SHOW AND TELL" OVER and out...
10-4 good buddy!
"Have a Nice Day"

(Nolan..Wally smelled the marshmallows..I think we're busted)

Don't Worry...it's not what you think! and it tastes good!

OK...
so it says
purified water
and it
looks a little
muddy...
Whats up juan?

I love homemade "Snapple" ...
tea and fruit juice
and yes, I did the inpardonable...
I reused a water bottle.
Sorry,
but it sure tastes good!
and for those who know me,
you know this is my favorite drink

though it looks a little nasty in a water bottle.

When you see the copper....pray for Andrew and Ruth!

Ok before you scold me...I'm not dis-ing Andrew and Ruth(former WBFJ employee and a member of our family) by covering their faces with pennies. They are going into a sensitive part of the world very soon and I don't want to plaster their pictures all over the world through the internet. But I do want you to pray for them everytime you deal with pennies. You probably already know what Andrew and Ruth look like anyway. If I get the go ahead I'll publish the un-edited picture. But I kinda like my prayer reminder as it is...let's see if it works. (PS...if I'm an idiot please tell me gently and I'll deal with it...I love this young family and I look forward to seeing what the Father is going to do through them.)

Bosses' Day...Sorry Wally... I just couldn't resist...

Here's what happened. I was the last to sign Wally's "HAPPY BOSSES' DAY" Card and I noticed it was full of multi-paragraphed, small print, edged-in side ways, epositions of how great a boss Wally is... I mean, you would have thought this was Wally's Eulogy (or else setting up for a big raise). To be honest, I was getting ready to write a nice airy praise myself but it hit me... Wally's going to get the big head...so I thought deeply about what I should say. After a few seconds which seemed like moments, I finally came up with this gem:

"Wally...best wishes...john"

{Blogger note: Old picture from my Wally archives...we have thousands...LOL)

God will make a way...even for a wild maple...

Saturday while out splitting wood for the fireplace I noticed this little wild maple had sprung up and decided it wasn't going to let that big dead pine log keep it from joining friends growing up the fence. There are so many lessons there I'll just let you apply it to your situation.

Please be impressed that I was out splitting wood in the old fashion way. LOL. Gotta keep that fireplace a going.

God's love warms the heart but the firplace keeps the home warm and cozy. LOL.

NICE BIRDIES...we love our cars just the color they are...

Wednesday or Thursday afternoon when the weather was so nice I got a little carried away and commented "I'd love to be flying right now...especially if I were a bird." I think all the birds in the neighborhood heard me and came out to rally support (I hope it wasn't a protest, if you know what I mean) Friday evening at the station. There were birds everywhere!
I thought of you Brandi and Taylor my other bird friends in Mt. Airy...
I knew you'd love this story. The only thing is...these are wild birds and not necessarily a good example for you two...you'd get in trouble with mama Paula if you started hanging out like this. I know life in the cage is a little confining at times but it's a mean world out there with the crowds...and you'd miss your mama's love and attention.

(Blogger afterthought: After I published this I clicked on the first picture with the Union Baptist Church in the background to get a a better at the birds, and lo and behold, it looks like the telephone pole merged with the steeple to act as a giant cross...you notice that too? I added this third picture which looks like the opposite telephone pole gives the same effect...ok..."so what", you say..LOL)

Another type of anniversary...

Just noticed it's been a year since I was really sick and out of work for much of a week. I won't go into detail but it was food poisioning or something like it... it hit me after I got off the air that night in 2005 one day after my wedding anniversary... I was so sick I could barely move. It was a big enough event that I wrote it in my "Utmost" notes last year this time. I remember feeling so thankful after it was all over and I began to feel good again. I remember thanking the Father for being so good to me and restoring my health. Now a year later, I still thank the Father for being so good and faithful. I'm not blaming God for the sickness...just thanking HIm for using it for good..

I was just re-reading "MY UTMOST" for today...I can remember reading it and appreciating it last year this time...

"The test of a man's religious life and character is not what he does in the exceptional moments of life, but what he does in the ordinary times, when there is nothing tremendous or exciting on...

It is difficult to get into stride with God, because when we start walking with Him we find He has outstripped us before we have taken three steps. He has different ways of doing things, and we have to be trained and disciplined into His ways. ...

God's Spirit alters the atmosphere of our way of looking at things, and things begin to be possible which never were possible before. Getting into the stride of God means nothing less than union with Himself. It takes a long time to get there, but keep at it. Don't give in because the pain is bad just now, get on with it, and before long you will find you have a new vision and a new purpose. "

Great Anniversary...but am I out of the doghouse???

Judy loved her cards and our anniversary went well. I think I have finally let myself out of the dog house for forgetting her birthday a few months back. But I did have one close call yesterday...I saw where Judy put this puzzling reminder on the fridg...where we put all our "to do" and "to get" lists...
"Dog Food"...we haven't had a dog for years! Why would Judy buy dog food? I paniced...I scrambled nervously through the breakfast cereal looking for any sign of Kibbles and Bits...NOTHING! Then it came to me that this was just a reminder to take that big soup bone in the fridg to Mema's dog. WHEW!!! I was so embarassed... I didn't even bring this up. Let's just pretend this didn't happen since for the most part, it really didn't happen to this detail...ha ha...(I really didn't look in the cereal but the rest is true)...LOL.

OH, YEAH...Don't forget the HEAVENLY FATHER loves you and keeps your picture on HIS refrigerator...so to speak...

Shhhh....Judy's getting HALLMARK...

As you might remember, I clean forgot Judy's birthday a few months ago. I felt like a worm...I still do but I'm trying to do better. Our anniversary is just a few hours away and she is going to find a few HALLMARKS about the house when she wakes up tomorrow. Notice I said HALLMARK instead of my usual "HillMARK" cards that I usually come up with. I'm sharing the funny one with you but the mushy ones are off limits... just wouldn't be proper...something a real worm might do...LOL.

Blogger admission: One of the cards is actually a birthday card since I promised her we would celebrate her birthday ALL YEAR LONG! And we're doing it!

DAY 10 and a half...Last Stage to K-ville!

The FOUR HORSEMEN of the Apoca-blitz...these valiant four cowboys ( and a few more) took apart and packed up a week's work of fair set-up in less than 2 hours! Dudes you were screaming! Now hang on cowboys the fair is officially back in the box and you're on the last stage (looks like a giant surf board!) to K-ville...ALL ABOARD!!!

Happy Trails till next October!

(juan...not nice to point at Bill's broken spur...sorry.)

Faired Well... MATE... jolly good ! Day 10...

These last 15 days (includes 5 days of set-up) have really flown by... I really think this has been the grEATest Dixie Classic fair ever. Up until the rain and wind blew in, crowds were grEAT and happy faces were everywhere...EATING. I think we were all blessed by each others company.

Even after the wEATher went down hill a little, the fun in the WBFJ Plinko Gazebo never lET up.

Wednesday was the biggest ever...LOTS of grEAT interviews, tons of good FOOD...uh I mean...interviews, LOTS of PLINKO Players and a packed SANDWICH...uh...I mean packed house for the Jars of Clay concert...if you came lATE, you did well to find a sEAT!

AND did I mention there was LOTS of that grEAT fair FOOD...I think I ate I ate I ate I ATE 6 pork chop sandwiches from Cornerstone Christian's booth over the 10 days...is that a Guiness record or am I just a plain ole pig...

Judy thinks I have FOOD on the brain during fair week... I don't think I'm that bad...but I have to admit there was lots of fun and LOTS to EAT!!!

"Don't worry, Ali...Wally and I are professionals...LOL

If you've been listening this week, you know I love to talk with listeners and guests on-the-air at the fair.

Most don't want to be put on the air but Ali came along Thursday night and in a blink of an eye was wanting to go on air with me.

The song ended and we started talking up a storm...Ali told me she was a student at Calvary Baptist Day School, had many nice teachers, has a cool uncle Chuck, cool Mema...and so forth.

Then I realized I was talking into the wind but not on the radio.

Wally is on the phone to mission control while I'm trying to figure it all out...

It then occured to me to turn on the mic switch...duh...

So Ali and I started the conversation at the beginning and it all turned out fine.

If you were listening Thursday night at about 8:30.. you actually got to experience this special moment with us.

Aren't you glad you are in the hand of professionals...LOL!

"Two, 4, 6, ate...who do we appreciate..."

Two of the "Jars" from Jars of Clay were able to sneak over for a visit before going on stage over at the Dixie Classic Grandstand. The guys told me they like to fish when they get a little break from their busy schedule. (MOSTLY bASS..SOMETIMES A LITTLE treble).

So the TWO JARS became one of FOUR INTERVIEWS I was able to bring you between 4 and 6.
Cindy Johnson was actually the first of the FOUR. Cindy is TOP NOTCH and a real blessing. Donna "Roseanne" always called her "Sweet Cindy Johnson". Did a grEAT job opening for Jars of Clay.

(Cindy, I'm sorry I sometimes mess-up and say Cindy Morgan...I know your name...it's just I'm slipping a little..LOL.)

Meredith West was number four...Meredith is Hospitality Director at VICTORY JUNCTION CAMP and as you heard is real enthusiastic about her work and the fact that you are helping as you play RAM Fabrication PLINCO.

(Aunt Judy Holcomb-Pack from Crisis Control was actually second up but no one was around to grap a picture but the interview was great... and Crisis Control packed in the cans of food collected at the gate.)

"ATE" a JUICY, DELICIOUS pork chop sandwich from Conerstone Christian's booth...official WBFJ food sponsor at the fair. Can you tell I was loving it? LOL.

And we APPRECIATE you coming by to play PLINKO with us on your way to see Cindy Johnson and Jars of Clay...YOU ROCK!!! Not sure what that means but the WBFJ Crossroad guys said it was alright to say that occasionally if I really got excited.

"One Monkey Don't Stop No Show"...

Fred Patterson and I were Co-hosting Day 5 when his 12 year old hung a monkey around his neck...really kinda fit the mood we were in. We were already full of peanuts...hats off to Fred for sweeping up the shells. Fred will be doing Christian Karoake again Saturday night at 7 in the WBFJ Gazebo...join us if you can.
Remember Karen Lee? She was doing the afternoons at WBFJ pre FM days back in the 80's. She, Kim and the family dropped by the Gazebo and spent a little time. I remember when each of the 6 kids were born and have watched them all grow up.The girls have put each other through an extreme make-over since the last time I saw them..green, purple hair and all (LOL). Daddy Kim said he is now being paid back for HIS rebellious days! LOL. Just for the record, Sheila next to me, their cousin, then Shannon Elizabeth, and Sarah on the end.

Day 4...a princess , a piggy, "BFJ- the-dj" and a Hey, Hey!

Mikaley is your American Royalty National Grand Supreme Queen or something like that. Honey, I hope they don't make you say all that at once...
No matter what, it was a real honor to have my picture made with a sweet little princess like you.
Swifty junior" was my other sweetie for the evening. She's not old enough to race yet (6 weeks old) but Zack...the "Swifty Swine Swimming and Racing Pigs" Swinemaster brought her over to rest in papa's arms for a few minutes. You might have heard her while I was interviewing Zack...she's got a pretty loud snort already! Click on her picture for a closeup!
Between 5 and 6 Tuesday evening it was the John and BFJ-the- DJ program...that's Brent F. Johnson our Dixie Classic Underwriter again this year. Frank's initials are really B-F-J and he really was a DJ before heading to Appalachian. I think Frank's still got what it takes, don't you? (Also great smile for a CREST commercial).

And then there was the "Hey HEY! WBFJ" shout-out from Madison, Elizabeth and Kelly. You girls really did a great job singing the WBFJ jingle! Best shout-out at the Dixie Classic Fair so f ar this year!

Faired pretty well last night...

Picture#1 Oldest granddaughter Hannah smiling as usual. Susan and Kevin and the kids joined us for a big night at the fair.
Picture#2 Big night at the rodeo in the grandstand... bareback bull riding... I was impressed by what came out of the Modern Gate... some mean bulls and tough cowboys!
Picture#3 In the tradition of Ezekiel I always enjoy this vision of the wheel... I was intrigued by the UFO that popped into the picture. When I wasn't watching the bulls, I was watching the wheel... I nicknamed the UFO "The Wheelie".
Picture#4 OOPS! This is the picture of my granddaughter smiling (also Josh and Audrie)...sorry for the mix-up... sometimes Blogger uploads the pictures in reverse order. That first picture was an exotic animal in the petting zoo. I got it half right...that happy exotic animal in picture #1 was also smiling! Don't you just love to see happy exotic animals?

Blogger note: You'll never in a million years be able to guess what I did to get that exotic animal to smile like that...If I told you I'd have to erase your computer harddrive so don't ask... LOL.
